About
Rashida Abdul-Ganiyu is a highly accomplished and dedicated scientist, with a strong passion for studying, understanding, and helping to develop products for human good.Growing up in Ghana, she developed a deep in studying science and her passion led her to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Genetics in Alexandria,Egypt (on a full scholarship) where she graduated with honors. She then went on to work at an Agricultural Research Institute in Ghana were she leveraged her molecular biology expertise to helping plant breeders generate insect- and disease-resistant crop varieties for small holder farmers. After two years of service, her aspiration of becoming an independent research scientist led her to seek graduate education and was accepted into the prestigious Ph.D program in Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her doctoral research focused on the use of cell, molecular, and biochemical techniques to study the role of phosphorylated G protein Beta subunit in the chemotropic response of budding yeast. Rashida now works as a research scientist at Abbott Laboratories, applying molecular and biochemical techniques to develop biologics for medical diagnostics devices. Throughout her academic career, Rashida has received numerous awards and recognition for her research contributions. She has also presented her work at various national and international conferences, and has published a first author research article in the Science Signaling scientific journal. Aside from her academic pursuits, Rashida is also passionate about promoting scientific literacy and education in underprivileged communities. She has volunteered her time to teach science in local schools and mentor young girls interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields. With her extensive education and research experience, Rashida is well-equipped to continue making significant contributions to the field of biological sciences. She hopes to inspire others to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the development of products for human good.
