About
Postdoctoral fellow specializing in stigma, health disparities, and health equity. Over a decade of experience in both quantitative and qualitative research across multiple topic areas, including sexual and reproductive health and tobacco/nicotine research. My primary area of expertise is health equity, and I am especially interested in the ways that stigma and bias are related to health behaviors and outcomes. My doctoral training focused on reproductive health stigma, particularly abortion stigma, and the ways that healthcare providers' biases impact reproductive healthcare. As a postdoc, I have expanded my interest in stigma into nicotine and tobacco research, and have been exploring how smoking-related stigma is related to smoking intensity, reduction, and cessation among individuals from historically oppressed groups. Regardless of the subject area, my goals is to reduce the impacts of bias and stigma, promote health equity, and minimize negative outcomes for individuals most impacted by systemic oppression. I have extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative designs. My quantiative research experience is primarily with survey-based designs and experimental designs, but also includes experience with randomized controlled trial research. In conjunction with my research design skills, I have built strong quantitative data analysis skills, including ANOVA/ANCOVA, linear and logistic regression applications, and structural equation modeling. While I primarily work in SPSS, I have working knowledge of both R and SAS. Beyond expertise with quantitative methods, I have robust experience with mixed methods and qualitative research methods. I have conducted and led multiple mixed methods and qualitative projects, including projects that use semi-structured interview and focus groups. Further, during my postdoctoral training, one of my main training areas was qualitative research. I led the qualitative data analysis portion of a mixed-methods R01 NIDA-funded clinical trial on e-cigarette use. As a result, I have extensive experience using and training others to use NVivo qualitative coding software, with working knowledge of ATLAS.ti and MaxQDA. Finally, I am a science communicator, focusing on communicating research findings to non-scientists. Durin my postdoctoral training, I earned a certificate in science communication. I have created written and visual communications related to my own research areas that were disseminated to research participants and community members.
