Lisa Marie Nelson, Ph.D. is a highly accomplished professional with extensive experience in the fields of pathology, drug discovery and commercialization across all phases of development. She received her Ph.D. in Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005, where she specialized in parasitology and drug discovery research. Dr. Nelson is pursuing an MD in General Surgery from Oregon Health & Science University and holds a BS in Zoology from Oregon State University. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Nelson began her career as a Scientist/Senior Scientist at Shire Human Genetic Therapies. She then went on to hold various roles at the company, including Associate Director of Preclinical Discovery and Senior Medical Science Liaison. During this time, she gained extensive experience in drug development and medical affairs. In 2014, Dr. Nelson joined BIO Ventures for Global Health as a consultant, where she focused on developing and implementing global health programs. She then moved on to work as a Portfolio Development Manager at Ascendis Pharma, where she was responsible for identifying and evaluating potential drug candidates. Most recently, Dr. Nelson serves as the Global Medical Lead and Engagement Manager at Syneos Health, a leading healthcare consulting firm. In this role, she worked with pharmaceutical companies to develop and implement strategies for bringing new drugs to market. She also served as a consultant at The NemetzGroup LLC, providing expertise in medical affairs and drug development. Dr. Nelson is a dedicated and passionate professional with a strong commitment to improving global health. She is constantly seeking new opportunities to use her skills and expertise to make a positive impact in the healthcare industry.
