Dr. Julia Gohlke holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Health from the University of Washington (2004) and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan (1997). Her extensive academic career includes professorships at Virginia Tech and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to her academic appointments, Dr. Gohlke served in significant scientific and policy roles, including as a Lead Senior Scientist at the Environmental Defense Fund, a Temporary Advisor at the World Health Organization, and a Research Assistantship at the Environmental Protection Agency. She also completed post-doctoral training in Environmental Health Sciences at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and in Science Policy at the United States Department of State Office of Global Change.
