Postdoctoral Research Fellow / September, 2022 — Present
Performed extensive website and database literature research on mitochondrial function and diseases. Generated clonal trans mitochondrial cybrid cell line with African European and Asian mitochondrial DNA. Evaluated viral replication in cybrids using RT-PCR plaque assays Western blot and lentivirus transduction system. Executed tumor xenograft and showed different anti-tumor responses between our nice transgenic mice models. Reviewed laboratory data contributed to data interpretation and made recommendations for future studies. Maintained a strong working knowledge of past and emerging research related to mitochondrial biology and disease. Kept detailed record of laboratory activities collaborated in manuscript writing and editing and communicated clearly in email and verbally with technical non-technical domestic internal and external stakeholders. Trained and mentored graduate students undergraduate students and new staff.
Rush University Medical Center Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology
Postdoctoral Research Fellow / April, 2022 — September, 2022
Compared differences in bone pathology following HIV infection in NODscid-IL-2Rgc null (NSG) mice (huAstroHuPBMCs) compared to the NOD.Cg-KitW-41J Tyr + Prkdcscid Il2rgtm1WjlThomJ mice using Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT or CT).
Graduate Student Researcher / August, 2017 — April, 2022
Isolated PBMCs from whole blood cultured and infected cells with HIV confirmed infection via Flow cytometry and quantified virus via ELISA. Injected immune-deficient mice with HIV-infected PBMCs via IP injection and tracked animal health and bone mass via Dual X-ray Absorptiometry. Characterized bone architecture via Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT or CT). Characterized primary and immortalized human bone cells using staining RT-PCR Western blot and immunoassays. Generated lentiviral particles for genetic manipulation protein overexpression. Wrote detailed accurate reports for analyses experiments or projects (e.g. equipment validation evaluation of new processes) and communicated clearly to scientific and nonscientific audiences. Trained and mentored high school students undergraduate students and new staff.
University of Chicago Department of Microbiology
Research Technician / August, 2016 — August, 2017
Generated and tested Dengue and Zika lentivirus using luciferase reporter system RT-PCR Western blot and immunofluorescent in MAGT1-deficient cells to evaluate the role of MAGT1 in viral entry. Meticulously planned and independently executed experiments utilizing molecular and microbiological techniques while adhering to established protocols under the guidance of a senior graduate student or postdoc. Calibrated and maintained laboratory equipment kept a well-stocked inventory ensured the lab complied with the university regulations and chemical hygiene plan and mediated deficiencies in the inspection.
Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine / Walter Reed Army Inst Research
Research Assistant / August, 2015 — August, 2016
Assisted in the retrieval and shipment of research samples prepared processing reagents and maintained a well-stocked inventory and a hygienic work environment. Research interpreted and applied microbiological techniques related to processing hazardous specimens (such as serum plasma PBMC and leukopak) during periods of high specimen volume for clinical trials. Collaborated with the Biorepository Supervisor to ensure accurate record-keeping of incoming and outgoing specimen shipments. Expertly calibrated and operated laboratory machines for efficient sample processing and testing. Adhered to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conducted routine maintenance on laboratory equipment including daily weekly monthly and annual checks.
Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) Center for Science and Democracy (CSD)
Research Intern / June, 2015 — August, 2015
Co-authored a report titled "Progress and Problems" for the UCS (Union of Concerned Scientists). Analyzed quantitative research data collected from federal scientists to assess their utilization of scientific integrity policy and generated graphical figures to effectively visualize data and presented findings during weekly meetings. Participated in weekly meetings to discuss ongoing tasks where I identified themes for program improvement. Maintained an up-to-date knowledge of relevant issues within assigned areas of responsibility.
