Collective Success Network

In charge of scaling the Collective Success Network (CSN) model of support and mentoring for low-income, first-generation college students. Create innovative culturally relevant curricula and learning events, along with research-based student leadership, mentoring and networking programs. Responsible for program development, comprehensive data collection and program evaluation, grant writing and grants management, strategic planning, and board development. Work in partnership with CSN student-led chapters at Temple University, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University, and with individual students and faculty in CSN’s new “Consortium Chapter,” which includes colleges across the entire Philadelphia-area. Serve as the primary liaison to university administrators, professional volunteers, and mentors. Supervise program administrators, student interns, and assistants.

Collaborated with higher education teacher preparation programs across the country that are intentional about supporting and preparing equity and social justice-oriented teachers from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. Led and directed partnerships for program improvement, including collaborative action research, curriculum development, equity reviews, customized learning summits, professional development workshops, program evaluation and coaching. Led a three-day National Convening on diversifying the teaching profession and promoting educational equity for underserved students. Co-created a new research-based framework for the quality preparation of diverse educators. Selected and co-facilitated the first cohort of colleges in BranchED’s Transformation Center. Strong external presence representing BranchED at national conferences, funder and policy events, and research summits.

Led mixed-method research, program development and evaluation, publications, and grant writing across a broad variety of initiatives focused on educational leadership and equity, school-community partnerships, and culturally relevant pedagogy at minority serving institutions. Worked collaboratively with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges, Hispanic Serving Institutions, and Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions. Responsibilities included coaching and leading professional development workshops for staff and faculty at diverse colleges and universities and their K-12 partners, conducting research-based site visits to social justice-oriented educational institutions across the country to collaboratively analyze and vet successful programs, and authoring national reports highlighting actionable recommendations for replication and growth.

Taught “Understanding Educational Evaluation: Social Justice Assessment” at Rutgers, Newark Urban Teacher Education Program. Taught a year-long Capstone course on Practitioner Inquiry in Urban Education for Penn’s Urban Teacher Masters’ and Certificate Program, where I also served as advisor and supervisor for students’ final theses. Developed and taught two new graduate courses in Penn’s higher education graduate program: “Diversity in the Higher Education Curriculum” and “Social Justice Pedagogies.”

Developed RFPs and counseled applicants across an array of different grant programs and initiatives. Directed hundreds of public educational programs across the state on equity topics such as Gender Equity, The Bill of Rights, and Technology, Communication and Community. These programs included Commonwealth Speakers, book discussion groups (in person and on public radio), fostering rural community development centers, editing a statewide newsletter, and directing a three-year professional development program in the Philadelphia School District. Wrote and edited National Reports, reports to funders, and strategic plans.
