About

Avery Gilbert is a scientific pioneer in the area of human odor perception and was elected a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. Gilbert is a fragrance industry innovator who created a sensory psychology research group for international fragrance company Givaudan and founded three olfactory-related startups. These include Headspace Sensory LLC, a company engaged in the sensory analysis of cannabis aroma. Gilbert’s book *What the Nose Knows: The Science of Scent in Everyday Life* was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Science & Technology, and short-listed for the Royal Society Science Book Prize. It has been translated into eight languages. Dr. Gilbert has published more than thirty scientific papers as well as numerous articles in newspapers and magazines. His work is regularly cited in the media. Gilbert has discussed the science of smell on national television and radio, including FOX, NPR, CNN, CBS and MSNBC, and at the World Science Festival and SXSW. For three years running he appeared in television commercials for Shiseido’s Ag DEO24 products in Japan. Gilbert writes on the science and culture of smell at Substack.
