> > > > > > > # Dr. Kjellerup's research and teaching interests focus on biofilms in complex systems such as environmental and industrial systems. Dr. Kjellerup has trained as an environmental engineer and microbiologist specializing in beneficial and detrimental aspects of microbial communities for over 25 years. She has pioneered the application of biofilms on sorptive materials for bioremediation and used them to develop novel bioremediation strategies. Dr. Kjellerup is also researching the formation of biofilms causing human infections on orthopedic implants and has developed strategies for viral detection in wastewater. As an indication of her expertise on the subjects of microbial communities and their relation to complex systems, she has presented her scientific findings at 75+ meetings and has orally presented at 80+ national and international meetings.
