About

Laura Carter is an accomplished human rights researcher with expertise in equalities and non-discrimination, particularly in the social impact of data, technology and AI. She completed her PhD in Human Rights Research Methods from the University of Essex in 2024, where her thesis examined the gendered impact of data and AI in the public sector. Prior to this, she obtained a Master of Arts in Gender Studies from SOAS, University of London in 2010, where she developed a strong understanding of intersectional feminist theory in international contexts. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, which has equipped her with analytical and critical thinking skills as well as expertise in statistical analysis. Laura has held research positions in NGOs including the Ada Lovelace Institute and Amnesty International, where she was responsible for rigorous and timely impact-focused research.
