Research Project Assistant / May, 2020 — December, 2024
At the Wadsworth Center Laboratories in Albany, NY, I focused on research specific to M.S and Ph.D. degrees. I have experience in the development of clinical biomonitoring methods, method validation, and instrument maintenance, publishing results, and presenting findings at national conferences. Projects related to Dissertation Research: • Development and validation of a novel method for the determination of methylmercury (MeHg) and inorganic mercury (iHg) species in whole blood based using LC-VG-ICP-MS/MS. The desired method will be designed to serve as biomonitoring method. • Using the validated method, analyze 10% of archived blood samples collected during the first (n = 180) and second (n = 120) local health and nutrition examination surveys in NYC for MeHg and iHg, to assess method robustness and explore differences of Hg species for the selected samples over a 10-year period as a pilot study. • Investigate blood Hg speciation in two individual human case studies where a.) exposure to iHg from skin lightening cream was suspected and b.) exposure to MeHg from excessive fish consumption was suspected. • Extend the application of Hg speciation by LC-VG-ICP-MS/MS to skin lightening creams, using XRF as a pre-analysis screening technique. • Manage Agilent ICP-MS/MS and 1260 Infinity LC instruments: troubleshoot instrumental issues, ensure maintenance is completed, serve as the point of contact for use • Publish results and present findings at conferences Projects related to Thesis Research: • Developed an improved method for blood lead determination using GF-AAS that is clinically fit for purpose for new blood lead reference value set by the CDC • Compared two different GF-AAS instruments to ICP-MS results • Manage Perkin Elmer GF-AAS instruments (AAnalyst 600 and PinAAcle 900Z): troubleshoot instrumental issues, ensure maintenance is completed, serve as the point of contact for use • Published results and presented findings at conferences
