Dustin Hines

Associate Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at UNLV specializing in serotonin, psychedelics, neuropsychiatric disorders, and novel drug screening and discovery

About

I am an Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). My research focuses on understanding how neuromodulatory systems shape brain function, behavior, and neuropsychiatric disease, with particular emphasis on serotonin signaling and psychedelic compounds. My laboratory combines behavioral neuroscience, electrophysiology, EEG, and pharmacology to investigate brain function across molecular, circuit, and behavioral levels. A major focus of my work is the development, screening, and characterization of novel psychoactive and therapeutic compounds. We use preclinical models and translational neurophysiological measures to identify drug effects, characterize mechanisms of action, and evaluate compounds with potential applications in neuroscience and neuropsychiatric medicine. My broader research interests include serotonin receptor pharmacology, psychedelics, neural oscillations and sensory processing, arousal and respiration, and the discovery of new pharmacological tools for probing brain function. I am particularly interested in research that bridges fundamental neuroscience with drug discovery and translational applications.
