Michael Modest

About

Michael Modest is a renowned mechanical engineer with over 40 years of experience in the field. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley in 1972 and his Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich in Germany in 1968. Modest has held numerous prestigious positions throughout his career, including Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University Distinguished Professor, and Keith and Elinor Shaffer and Betty Lou George Professor of Engineering at the University of California Merced's School of Engineering. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at various universities, including the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, ETH Zurich in Switzerland, and the University of Stuttgart in Germany. Before joining the faculty at the University of California Merced, Modest held positions at Pennsylvania State University, University of Southern California, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and San Francisco State University. He has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at NASA-Johnson Space Center. Modest's research focuses on the development and application of numerical methods for solving complex engineering problems related to combustion, radiation, and heat transfer. He is a highly respected and sought-after expert in this field and has published numerous papers and books on the subject. In addition to his academic and research achievements, Modest is also known for his dedication to mentoring and teaching the next generation of engineers. He has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of mechanical engineering, including the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award and the ASME Freeman Scholar Award. Overall, Michael Modest is an accomplished mechanical engineer who has made significant contributions to the field through his research, teaching, and mentorship. His expertise, experience, and passion for engineering make him a highly respected and valuable member of the engineering community.
