HYPRSKN Inc
Director/Lead R&D Scientist / April, 2022 — December, 2025
Developed over 40 unique organic photochromic dyes and UV absorbers through multistep synthesis, enhancing smart photochromic tattoo ink and UV blocking product innovation for bioapplication. Supported the development and optimization of polymer encapsulation techniques and ink scaleup production, including stability evaluation (UV exposure cycling testing), cytotoxicity, safety evaluations, and impurity-focused product quality testing. Led the dye R&D scale-up with an external contractor, delivering the first commercial product within three years and co-filing patents that strengthened the company's IP portfolio.
University of Colorado-Boulder
Research Associate / June, 2018 — December, 2021
Investigated a novel microstructure formed through oppositely charged hydrogel mechanical bonding combined with UV photopolymerization. Demonstrated expertise in microfluidic polymerization, organic synthesis, Gaussian modeling, and contributing to advanced research outcomes including 4 peer reviewed papers.
SAMSUNG Electromechanics
Senior Engineer / October, 2016 — May, 2018
Engineered stable nano- and micro-scale magnetic particle dispersions using surface functionalization, homogenization, and formulation optimization strategies. Formulated slurries (binders, additives, solvents, and polymer composites) for roll-to-roll tape casting, drying, hot-pressing processes, and film testing. Improved pilot-scale and manufacturing processes by analyzing root causes of failures, resulting in higher product quality operational efficiency. Applied in Galaxy 9 model smartphone components.
University of Maryland-College Park (UMCP)
Research Assistant / 2009 — August, 2016
Pioneered novel surface-functionalization strategies for carbon nanomaterials—including carbon nanotubes and graphene—using organic chemical reactions in aqueous system to precisely control optical and electronic properties for biosensing (pH and ions), NIR imaging, and optoelectronic applications. Supported high-purity purification workflows using automated size-exclusion chromatography, ultrafiltration, and ultracentrifugation to improve yield efficiency and material purity. Conducted extensive research on surface modification, colloidal dispersion, and structure-property relationships, contributing to the advancement of next-generation functional nanomaterials.
