About

Robert Tisserand is a British American author, educator and consultant on the science and benefits of essential oils and their safe and effective application. Through his work he has helped bring widespread professional and public recognition to aromatherapy since his first endeavors in 1974. Robert is a lifetime honorary member of AIA, NAHA, IFA and IFPA, and he was privileged to receive an AIA Lifetime Achievement Award in Denver in 2007. In recent years, Robert has inspired live audiences in Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, New York, Melbourne, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Prague, Taipei, Shanghai and Beijing, and he reaches online audiences all around the world. Robert wrote the first English language book on aromatherapy in 1977. His Essential Oil Safety, a comprehensive text on the chemistry and toxicology of using essential oils, has become the industry standard for safety guidelines. Robert has 40 years of experience in aromatherapy “functional fragrance” product development. Along with his wife, Hana, Robert manages The Tisserand Institute, which offers expert-led and evidence-based online education in the science of essential oils and the art of aromatherapy.

Expansive knowledge of essential oil chemistry, metabolism, pharmacology, psychopharmacology and toxicology. Instrumental in bringing widespread professional and public recognition to aromatherapy. A certified massage therapist with 15 years experience as a holistic practitioner also using herbs, essential oils and healing. Familiar with the foundations of oriental medicine, and Western herbal and naturopathic traditions, with their emphasis on cleansing, protecting, strengthening immune function and aiding natural healing processes.
