Dr. Sila Zaporozhec is an Associate Professor of Gender Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She has a PhD in Gender Studies from the University of Michigan (2018), and a MS in Gender Studies from Harvard University (2012). Her research interests centre around the intersections of gender, ethnicity, and sexuality. Her academic work focuses on the construction of gender roles and identities among people of the African diaspora, and the insights this offers into the broader dynamics of social justice, identity formation, and power relations. Outside of academia, Sila is an advocate and activist for gender equality, working with a range of organizations to draw attention to the injustices and inequalities that still prevail in many societies today.
