Dr. Sofia Georgiadou is a licensed professional counselor-supervisor and a licensed marriage and family therapist-supervisor (in Texas, US) with over 12 years of experience in the field. She earned her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2012, and her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2009 from the same university. Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Dr. Georgiadou has worked in various clinical inpatient and outpatient settings, providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families. She has also taught and supervised students in training as a faculty member at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, where she is currently an Assistant Professor of Family Therapy. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct faculty member at Yorkville University (Canada), teaching in the online Masters in Counselling Psychology program. Dr. Georgiadou's research interests include family therapy education, faculty wellness and experiences of equity, othering and belonging. She has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals. She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the American Counseling Association. In her teaching, therapy and clinical supervision practice, Dr. Georgiadou takes a collaborative and strengths-based approach, working with students, supervisees and clients to identify and build on their existing resources and strengths to create lasting change. She believes in the importance of cultural sensitivity and strives to create a safe and inclusive space for all her students, supervisees, and clients.
