Bachelor's degree, Environmental Science / January, 2011

About
My goal is to participate and help lead innovative projects regarding agricultural adaptation, mitigation, and efficiency in order to help lower greenhouse gas emissions and make agricultural systems more resilient under the changing climate. Improving communication of science and better engaging stakeholders in climate action. <br> I attended the University of New Hampshire (UNH) where I received my bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecosystems in 2011. While at UNH I worked for the Forest Ecosystem lab researching carbon fluxes in forest ecosystems, and the Environmental Research Group where I researched the impact of snow on green roofs. I worked two summers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with the Alaska Peatland Experiment as part of the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer internship program. Here my work focused on researching carbon fluxes in an Alaskan peatland under a changing climate. I later participated in a UNH run New Zealand Study abroad program called EcoQuest where I wrote my senior thesis titled "Lizard populations on Motuihe Island, New Zealand". While in New Zealand I came to realize my interest in agricultural systems and how they involved a deep multidisciplinary understanding of both human nature and systems as well as ecosystem science. The interwoven fabric of these fields is ever present and is essential for understanding and adapting in an ever changing world. I earned a masters degree at UNH in 2013 on my thesis titled "Comparison of greenhouse gas emissions on an organic and conventional dairy in New Hampshire". My thesis involved sampling of GHG emissions from dairy cows, manure, animal housing, and soil emissions. My thesis focused on examining differences in management between systems and how this can lead to varied GHG efficiencies, as well as the advantages and disadvantages between systems.
