Morica Hutchison

A collaborative and detail-oriented postdoctoral fellow and HDFS PhD graduate with seven years of experience in project development, management and intervention focused on adolescents at-risk of mental health and/or substance use diagnoses, including suicidal behaviors, to increase treatment seeking behaviors. I am looking to use my research and clinical experience, rapport with community-based partnerships and communication and writing skills.
Experience

Child Health and Development Institute

Independent Subcontractor / October, 2023Present

Program evaluator role to create and facilitate interviews with top youth mobile crisis program directors and survey to providers across the state of Connecticut to assess the interest, preference and readiness of implementing a technology platform for geolocation tracking and real-time appointment scheduling. Lead discussions with platform technology companies through technical demonstrations and created a technical report of all findings to be presented to the Department of Children and Families.

University of Rochester Medical Center

T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow / August, 2021Present

NIH-supported T32 postdoctoral fellow at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide, Department of Psychiatry. Trained in the design and execution of community-based psychosocial clinical trial research focused on adolescent suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Specifically examined treatment seeking beliefs among adolescents and their caregivers presenting to the mobile response stabilization services to modify treatment seeking behaviors.

University of Connecticut

Graduate Assistant / August, 2017August, 2021

As a graduate assistant for four years at the University of Connecticut, I worked on seven distinct projects under 6 senior mentors. Orchestrated data collection, management and analysis of electronic health records, coding of semi-structured interviews, and longitudinal self-report data spanning six months to eight years . Led manuscript conceptualization and preparation resulting in 21 talks/posters at national and international conferences, 17 publications and 15 technical reports and white papers

Community Health Resources

Marriage and Family Therapist / August, 2017June, 2021

• Child outpatient services therapist, providing services to youth with mental and behavioral health diagnoses and their contextual family systems via in-person or telehealth sessions

About
I am currently a T32 postdoctoral fellow at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. My training as a research scientist with a PhD in Human Development and Family Sciences focuses on utilizing evidence-based practices to address youth’s behavioral health, including substance use and suicidal behaviors. As a family scholar and prevention scientist, I am trained in the development, testing and implementation of evidence-based interventions aimed at improving the quality of behavioral health for youth and families in community-based settings. My research has focused on the creation and implementation of mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) with youth presenting with mental health and substance use disorders in recovery high schools and community-based outpatient clinical settings.
