T. Osswald is Hoeganaes Professor of Materials at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has been a faculty member since 1989. Osswald received the PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987, the MS in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1982, and the BS in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1981. Before joining the UW-Madison faculty, Osswald was a Humboldt Fellow at the Rheinisch Westfalische Technische Hochschule Aachen. Osswald’s research interests are in the areas of processing-structure-property relationships for metals and composites, with a focus on powder metallurgy and metal injection molding. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the US Army Research Office, and industry. Osswald is a Fellow of ASM International and the American Academy of Mechanics, and he has received the Extrusion Division Award, the Powder Metallurgy Division Award, and the Distinguished Teaching Award from TMS.

My research focuses on expanding the places where robots can be deployed. My lab, the Living with Robots Laboratory, has the mission of seeing robots in every home and workplace. To that end, I work on technologies to enable robots to operate in places designed for people, and technologies to enable robots to better interact with people. I am on the executive committee for RoboCup@Home. I am an assistant director of the UT Austin robotics research consortium, Texas Robotics. I am an associate editor for top conferences and journals in robotics. I work on problems relating to autonomous social human robot interaction, artificial intelligence, and robotics architectures.

Professor Vu, a geospatial scientist by training and research, boasts two decades of expertise spanning Eurasia. Following his PhD in 2003, he commenced his journey as a research scientist at the Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Center in Kobe, Japan, before transitioning to a postdoctoral role at Chiba University from 2006 to 2007. Throughout his tenure in Japan, he directed his efforts towards leveraging geospatial technologies for disaster mitigation and management. He did his Master's degree in numerical methods applied to the problems of Continuum Mechanics and a Ph.D. thesis at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (France) on the mathematical modeling of tsunami waves. After this, he was hired as a permanent research scientist at the Institute of Mathematics (INSMI) at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). His research activities have been conducted in the following years at the picturesque University Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB, France) in the field of mathematical methods applied to the modeling and simulation of nonlinear waves (mostly in Fluid Dynamics). The Habilitation thesis of Dr. Dutykh was defended there on the topic of the mathematical methods in the environment. Since then, his research interests have significantly broadened to include the Dimensionality Reduction methods in Machine Learning, modeling of PV panels, and even some more theoretical questions in the Number Theory.
