About
I am a highly motivated individual with expertise in various artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP). Over the course of my academic and professional career, I have developed a strong skill set in these areas, and have applied them to various domains, including mental health. At Clarigent Health, I have played a key role in developing and improving machine learning models that analyze patient speech to identify mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and suicide risk. In addition, I have been the principal investigator on a NIMH SBIR grant investigating machine learning model performance across different patient characteristics and settings. Moreover, I have experience in developing and implementing customer-facing dashboards using tools like PowerBI, which enable clients to interact with and derive insights from complex data sets. Through my work at Clarigent Health, I have been able to leverage my expertise in ML, NLP, and other AI-related tools to drive innovation and improve mental health outcomes through data-driven solutions.

About
I am a scholar who researches focuses on the ways groups use rules, norms, and the language of consent and choice. My first book, Consensual Violence: Sex, Sports, and the Politics of Injury (University of California Press 2016), examines how two groups that willingly engage in seemingly violent activities — mixed-martial arts and sexual sadomasochism -- enact elaborate law-like rules to organize themselves and to demonstrate their legitimacy to a broader public. My second book, Help Me Die (forthcoming, Stanford University Press), is a cross-country comparison of assisted death and the ways terminally ill people, their loved ones, and medical professionals navigate laws that proscribe or permit aid-in-dying. I am also a methods junkie! I am interested in using cutting-edge methodologies to answer important contextual questions. My methods include ethnography, in-depth interviewing, and quantitative analysis, with an expertise in experimental methods. Currently, I have been studying the efficacy of generative AI to perform research method tasks such as coding. <br>

About
My research broadly investigates how metacognition and other self-regulatory strategies can be leveraged to optimize human cognitive performance. I've targeted this investigation from many directions, including how special experiences such as bilingualism drive cognition and how regulating one's physiology through diaphragmatic breathing can improve test performance. My most recent research investigates how reflecting on one's likelihood to remember environment information improves wayfinding success. My work is largely applied with implications for academic and workplace settings. In addition to conducting research, I share insights from my PhD journey and lifestyle on social media platforms including Instagram and YouTube (@laurenfindsaway). I am passionate about encouraging authenticity in academia to 1. promote approachability for first-generation college students considering postgraduate education and 2. highlight strategies for current graduate students to overcome academic hurdles and thrive.
