About
Felipe Oyarzún Ampuero graduated as a Pharmaceutical Chemist in the Austral University of Chile (2004). He obtained a “Diploma of Advanced Studies” (year 2007) and the degree of “Doctor in Research and Development of Medicines” (year 2011) at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Later he developed postdoctoral studies (2011-2013) at the Polymer Laboratory of the Universidad Austral de Chile. To carry out these studies he has received scholarships from MINEDUC (undergraduate) and CONICYT (postgraduate). In 2013 he joined to the University of Chile as an academic with a project on “Insertion of Advanced Human Capital in the Academy”. He is currently the Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology. In the teaching field he teaches to undergraduate and graduate students (Master's and Doctorate). He has been a researcher responsible for projects related to basic science (1 Fondecyt startup, 3 Fondecyt Regular, 2 Fondecyt postdoctoral) and several technological and/or applied science projects (Fondequip, Fondef and Corfo, among others). He has also been principal investigator in projects of different kinds (Fondap, Fondef, Fondequip, Anillo, Fondecyt regular, among others). The laboratory directed by Dr. Oyarzún has the necessary equipment to characterize liquid and solid formulations of different sizes (from nanometers to millimeters), their stability and the release profile of the active molecule contained. His main lines of research are: Encapsulation of active molecules (drugs and nutrients) in nano- and microsystems mediated by non-covalent interactions. Study of chemical interactions for the formation of nano and microsystems. Development of new materials for the pharmaceutical and food industries. Dr. Oyarzún has published more than 50 ISI publications, almost all of them from the first quartile. Below are the patents in which he appears as an inventor: **Accepted patents:** Application for USA: A new and green methodology to create polymeric nanocarriers containig hydrophilic low molecular-weight drugs and providing a very high drug loading and a very high prolonged release” (US/16/888,438).
