Stas Samarin is an accomplished Product and Strategy Executive with 20+ years of successful track record in digital strategy and innovation, product and portfolio management, and development of revolutionary products and services using cutting-edge technologies on a scale from start-up ventures to Fortune 25. With his deep knowledge of industry and academia, he has been effectively bridging the gap between scientific innovation and commercial success. Stas has held various leadership positions throughout his career, including SVP of Product and Strategy at VoiceLove, Managing Director and Senior Consultant at Outbreak Analytics, and VP of Strategy and Innovation at Avaneer Health. In these roles, he has been responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans, driving product innovation, and leading cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives. In addition to his corporate experience, Stas has also worked in the healthcare industry, serving as a Portfolio Management, Innovation, and Investment Leader at IBM Watson Health and as a Senior Product Manager at Express Scripts. Through these roles, he has gained a deep understanding of the healthcare market and has successfully launched several products and services that have improved patient outcomes and reduced costs. Nick Ruhs is the Research Data Management Librarian at Florida State University. He is also the subject librarian for the Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Statistics, Computer Science, and Scientific Computing departments. Prior to joining FSU Libraries, Nick earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from Quincy University in 2011. He is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Research Data Access and Preservation (RDAP), and the American Chemical Society (ACS).

I do first-principles computational research in materials science, that is, I adopt fundamental theories of physics at the atomistic scale to the computer to calculate and predict material properties. My interests include electron and thermal transport, lattice dynamics, and phase transitions. I have studied thermoelectrics, battery materials and interfaces, and shape-memory alloys, both independently and in collaboration with experimentalists.

I obtained my Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2019 for my award-winning work on the micro- and nano-physics of deformation in geological materials. I translated this skill set into working with a variety of other materials at the University of Oxford from 2019 until 2021. Following a short time teaching at the University of California Santa Cruz, I worked as the R&D manager for a multimillion dollar refractory metals manufacturer specializing in the aerospace, energy, and defense industries. I am now looking for new projects to become passionate about. I bring a unique variety of experience and expertise and love to learn about new topics.

Joy Mickle is an accomplished economic development professional with expertise in community engagement, small business development, and project management. With over 12 years of experience as a small business owner and founder of Iveywood Consulting, Joy has become a driving force behind many impactful business growth and community development initiatives. Her firm Iveywood Consulting specializes in leveraging data-driven strategies to expand economic development possibilities for small business and non-profit clients. <br> Joy's commitment to leveraging technology and data for positive change is evident in her track record of spearheading various business development programs and managing complex projects for diverse clientele. Central to her dedication is implementing equitable community engagement strategies in historically marginalized communities and creating more entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities in the communities themselves. She earned a Masters of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina and a Bachelors of Arts in History and African and Afro American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. Recently, she completed a Data Analytics Bootcamp at University of California, Berkeley in 2023, further enhancing her analytical skills and expertise in leveraging data for informed decision-making. With her extensive experience, diverse skill set, and deep commitment to community empowerment, Joy continues to make significant contributions to economic development and community empowerment initiatives with current projects with North Shattuck Association in Berkeley, or recent past projects with cultural nonprofits like Bandaloop and Black Cultural Zone in Oakland. Her less recent work with the City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services and Office of Economic and Workforce Development won her awards and produced real community change to which she is most proud.
