James N. Alexander IV, Ph.D. is a highly skilled and experienced analytical chemist with over 25 years of experience in the industry. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Berry College in 1982, followed by a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry from University of Georgia in 1984. In 1999, he earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Uppsala Universitet. After completing his formal education, Dr. Alexander worked as a Scientist at Wyeth before joining Rohm and Haas Chemicals LLC as a Distinguished Scientist and Group Leader for Separations and MS. He then moved on to become the Associate R&D Director at Dow Chemical Co. With his vast experience and expertise in the field of analytical chemistry, Dr. Alexander started his own consulting company, JN Alexander Consulting LLC, where he serves as the Principal Consultant. He has a strong track record of developing and implementing innovative solutions for complex analytical challenges, and has contributed to numerous publications and patents in the field. Dr. Alexander is highly respected in the industry and has been recognized for his contributions with several awards and honors. He is also an active member of various professional organizations, and regularly presents at conferences and seminars. In addition to his work in the industry, he is also passionate about mentoring young scientists and has served as a guest lecturer at several universities. Award-winning, analytical scientist with substantial separation science, mass spectrometry, and technical leadership experience, with expertise in the characterization of electronic materials, emulsion polymers, and surfactants. Highly innovative and innate skill in developing new analytical technology, with ongoing connection with industry / market to continually learn and shape future innovations. I am an Electrical Engineer by training, with PhD in Diamond Electronics (Devices, Nanofabrication, Charge transport, Valleytronics and Quantum) from Uppsala University, Sweden. Later, continued with Post doctoral research Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago. Here I gained experience working with growing diamond films using microwave plasma CVD, integration of 2D materials with diamond and few other heterojunction devices. Having moved to industry, at both Euclid Techlabs (for 2 years) and Akhan Semiconductor (during the last 5 years), I have gained experience working with several aspects of semiconductor materials and thin films research ranging from heterojunction diodes, field emission studies, H-terminated FETs, diamond optical wave guides & components for photonics, protective coatings for display glass & several transparent substrates, NV centers for quantum information studies, and a few defense applications, to name a few. Also, prior to my Doctoral studies, I have worked with Swedish Institute for Space Physics, incorporating nanotechnologies for antennas, EM field sensors etc., for space applications onboard satellites.

I am a people and nature-oriented individual who has always enjoyed helping people in any way that I can. My passion to help others started by supporting individuals in their daily routines to finding jobs. Eventually, my passion to help others would lead to teaching students about the principles of physical science and sustainability. <br> My passion for helpings others and concern over our future motivates me to make the world a better place for everyone. As an undergraduate student, I became more aware of the state of our world as well as developed a desire to continue my education. While living in Sweden, I found a master’s program in sustainable development and environmental science, and I knew this would be my path to help people on a broader scale. Now, I am continuing that pursuit as a Ph.D. candidate in Sustainability at the University of South Dakota.
